Evening falls on the burrowThe home dug under the ground where rabbits and foxes live.. Mummy Rabbit tucks Pilou in with the woolly blanket, the scratchy one that smells so good. “Time to sleep, my little one.” Pilou opens his eyes wide. “Wait! I haven't said good night.”

“To whom, my Pilou?” asks Mummy Rabbit. “To everyone,” says Pilou, very seriously.

He sits up in bed, because this is important work and you cannot do it lying down. So Pilou starts with the things he can see. “Good night, door. Good night, rug. Good night, my boots, both of you.”

He whispersTo speak very quietly, with a tiny voice, so you don't wake anyone., because at night we speak very softly. “Good night, lamp. Good night, dinner spoon.”

“Good night, carrot,” says Pilou. Mummy Rabbit laughs behind her paw. “The carrot is already in your tummy.” “Then good night, tummy.” Next he says good night to the things he cannot see. “Good night, garden. Good night, rain from earlier.”

“Good night, friends in the burrowThe home dug under the ground where rabbits and foxes live. next door. Good night, wind in the tall grass.”

Mummy Rabbit sits on the edge of the bed and says nothing at all. Outside, the night is soft and round like a pebble. Pilou's whiskersThe long thin hairs on a rabbit's nose. They wiggle when he sniffs. move slower and slower. “Good night, stars... good night, moon... and good night, mummy...”

Mummy Rabbit blows out the lamp. Saying good night to everything you love is already the start of beautiful dreams.

The end, sweet dreams.
