Filo the little fox did not want to sleep. Ever. “Five more minutes!” he said every night. Then five more. And five more again.

That evening, his mum blew out the candle and kissed him between the ears. But the moment she left the denThe home dug under the ground where foxes and rabbits live., Filo opened his eyes wide again. Sleep, really? While outside the night was doing mysterious things without him?

He poked his snout out of the denThe home dug under the ground where foxes and rabbits live.. The sky was huge and pricked with stars. And there, right at the top, the moon was watching him. “Not asleep, little fox?” she asked, in a voice as soft as an eiderdownA big, soft, puffy quilt filled with feathers..

“I don't want to sleep,” said Filo. “If I sleep, I'll miss everything!” The moon smiled. “Miss everything? Come, let me show you a secret.”

She lit up the sleeping forest. Filo saw the closed flowers getting their colours ready for tomorrow. He saw the huddled birds mending their songs. He even saw the wind, lying down in the branches, gathering strength to blow the morning clouds.

“You see,” whispered the moon. “At night, no one misses anything. Everyone is getting ready for tomorrow. The most beautiful things of the day are made while we sleep.”

Filo gave a great big foxy yawn. If even the wind was having a nap, then maybe... He curled back up in the denThe home dug under the ground where foxes and rabbits live., his tail wrapped around his nose.

And that night, Filo slept deeply, to get ready, like everyone else, for a very big day. Good night, little fox.

The end, sweet dreams.
