This evening, Daddy Bear is sitting in the dark, right at the end of the armchair. He says nothing at all and barely moves. Usually he tells stories. Usually he does the funny voices and gets them wrong on purpose. Not tonight.
Little Bear comes closer without making a sound, on tiptoe paws. “Daddy, are you grumpyIn a bad mood, answering with a small cross voice.?”
“No, my little cub. I am just tired.” Daddy Bear lets out a very big sighA big breath that comes out on its own when you are tired or sad., as long as a winter evening. Little Bear sits down on the floor, against the armchair, and thinks very hard. He knows this kind of evening well.
When he is sad, mummy does something magic. She does not talk. She does not ask questions. She does not even say it will pass.
So Little Bear climbs onto the armchair, one paw after the other, very slowly so as not to disturb. He rests his head against Daddy Bear's shoulderThe top of your arm, next to your neck: a perfect place to rest a head., right where the fur is softest and warmest.
And he gives a hug. A long, long bear-cub hug, with both arms, squeezing as tight as he can.
Daddy Bear still says nothing. But his shoulderThe top of your arm, next to your neck: a perfect place to rest a head.s come down, very slowly, like snow sliding off a branch. And then he smiles a little, there in the dark, and rests his big paw on Little Bear's back. “Thank you, my little cub.”
Little Bear is happy. You do not have to be big, or find the right words, to comfort someone.
The end, sweet dreams.
